Week 1
Within this first week, I was introduced to the course and given a course interview. This helped me understand the overall purpose of the class and the requirements. I was able to choose a field of study and narrow it down to one specific career choice. Also, I was able to contrast an essential question based on what I was interested in about this topic. I chose social work for unaccompanied alien children. During this week, I also reviewed a contract that explained that as a senior I am responsible for my own project.
WEEK 2
During the second week of this course, I was able to complete the Career Pathway worksheet and create an essential question for my project. The question I decided on was "what is the current plight on unaccompanied alien children?" This helped start planning what direction I would like to take my essay in and start to think of a potential thesis statement. This also helped me start brainstorming for what kind of sources I would like to use for research.
Week 3
Throughout this week, I started research to help me gather the information I need to begin my paper. Although I struggled, I was able to find credible sources to help me write a good paper. I was able to find local mentors to help give me a clear understanding on social work. I was able to gather questions to send out to them so they can give me useful information. I began my paper so fingers crossed I'll stay on track.
WEek 4
This is the week before spring break! There is so much pressure to get my rough draft for my research essay done. So far I think I am doing really good. I am looking forward to going to Florida, but I also know my responsibilities as a senior. My paper is coming along great and as the days go by I am becoming more engrossed into what I am writing.
Week 5
SPRING BREAK! Florida was amazing, but time to get back to work!
Week 6
Our final draft was due this week so we are under a lot of stress to get our stuff done. I am adding final touches to my paper and making sure all my in text citations are done properly. I am nervous, but I am also proud of my work. After finishing my final draft, I am beginning to plan for my tri fold and online presentation. Creativity seems to be a huge role when starting all of this. How exciting to finally use my creative planning and organization!
week 7
This week was pretty relaxed compared to all the others. Since we got the paper out of the way, I have just been building this site and I've been making sure I have the requirements and more.
Week 8
Throughout this week I have started gathering possible ideas and materials for my tri-fold. I have also started working on a presentation slide that I will display to my judges during the actual presentation. I have also put a lot of thinking into what I will do for my hands-on part of the project. Creativity is flowing in slowly but I have confidence that I will get to where I need to be to have an amazing presentation.
Week 9
I have had many ideas for my presentation and I’m happy that things have been going good. I am just working on simple things to help my presentation come together.
Week 10
This week has been stressful! I didn’t know I would lack creative motivation for my tri-fold, usually I don’t struggle with these kinds of projects but the beginning of this week I didn’t have a specific layout in mind. As the week went on, peers would supply me with advice and opinions, but because I am stubborn I didn’t take any suggestions until I heard one I liked. I prepared for my practice presentation which was only five minutes long. I almost received a perfect score! The week continued and I gained more confidence.
